Most business owners pray when things go wrong. A deal falls through, cash runs short, a key person leaves, and suddenly we are on our knees. There is nothing wrong with crisis prayer, but it is a small way to live.
Scripture invites us to something steadier. ‘Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established’ (Proverbs 16:3). Notice the order. We commit the work first, then the plans take shape. Prayer is not the emergency exit. It is the starting room.
When I plan a quarter at Afriqroup, I bring the numbers and the calendar to God before I bring them to the team. Not to hear a voice from the ceiling, but to slow down, to confess my hurry, and to ask for wisdom I do not naturally have. James says it plainly: if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask (James 1:5).
Here is a simple practice for this week. Before your next important decision, write it at the top of a page. Underneath, write one sentence asking God for wisdom about it. Then wait a day before you act. You will be surprised how often a rushed yes becomes a wiser not yet.
Building God’s way does not mean building slowly for its own sake. It means building on a foundation that holds, and prayer is that foundation.
