A lot of Christian business owners carry a low, nagging guilt. They wonder if the truly spiritual thing would be to leave it all and go into full-time ministry. The work feels ordinary next to preaching or missions, so they treat it as a lesser calling, tolerated rather than blessed.
I want to challenge that gently. ‘Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men’ (Colossians 3:23). Paul does not split work into sacred and secular. He says whatever you do. The spreadsheet, the sales call, the late night spent fixing a problem for a customer. Done as for the Lord, it is worship.
I stand in the pulpit and I stand in the marketplace, and I have stopped apologizing for the second one. God did not send most of His people into church buildings. He sent them into shops, offices, farms, and workshops, to be salt and light where the world actually happens (Matthew 5:13-16).
Your calling is not on hold until you do something more obviously religious. If God has placed a business in your hands, that is the ground He has given you to tend. Tend it faithfully, treat people justly, and let your integrity speak. Some of the clearest sermons are preached without a single word, by a business that simply refuses to cut corners.
